If not banana then what?

The growing of bananas will be not always profitable. Tenerife as the producer of bananas in no way can compete with the countries of the South America. The farmer, dealing with banana growing on Tenerife gets 2,50€ for entire plantain. You should add to that the legendary subsidies in amount of 25€ EU, what makes the growing of banana in Europe almost absurd. Additionally, they have the problem with lifting of very high custom duties at present imposed on the import of the South American bananas. This would be a „Kiss of death” for bananas from Tenerife. That is why Tenerife and other Canarias Islands have come back to old idea: viticulture. Canarias Islands have not only the biggest number of sunny days in Europe but also its specialty: mineral volcanic ground base. Thanks to the combination of those two conditions, Canarias Islands, and especially Tenerife, are ideal place of viticulture. Only today, the agricultural areas for grape-vine are bigger than the area for growing of bananas. Despite that, the production is sufficient practically only to cover own demand.
